Energy - Landfill Gas, Biogas, Biomass
Landfill gas can be obtained from organic compounds of landfills when the external factors like environmental conditions, moisture content, temperature, absence of oxygen are favourable for the existence of anaerobic bacteria who decompose organic matter.
It is assumed that the average landfill gas yield from one ton of houshold waste amount to 190 to 250m³ over a time period of 50 years. The native gas has a methane concentration of approx. 55Vol.%. One cubic meter landfill gas has an energy content of 5,5kWH/m³. This equals half a cubic meter of domestic gas or 0,5l heating oil. As landfill gas is combustible in concentrations ranging from 4,5 to 15Vol.% it can be used for the power and hot water supply via gas engine/ generator systems. 2kWh of electricity can be produced from one cubic meter landfill gas.
As methane is harmful to the climate (CO2 - factor 21) it has to be actively extracted from the landfill site via gas wells and gas rigoles. The landfill gas can be converted to energy or heat by using high temperature flares (+1000°C) or gas engine/ generator systems.
The hazardous substance content of landfill gas can be reduced with adapted gas cleaning plants so that a disturbance-free operation of the system can be ensured.
We develop site specific gas collection systems for active landfill gas extraction as well as the corresponding gas utilization facilities adequate to the available waste quantities. Furthermore, we offer an ongoing support in order to optimize the gas collection and gas utilization, respectively.
Based on our operational experience of such facilities we can give competent advice. Our multidisciplinary team consisting of geologist, civil engineers, process engineers and electrical engineers is looking forward to support you with planning and the design of your gas collection system. We also take over the complex tasks involved when planing an active gas collection system and to prepare your planning documents. We are happy to visit you on your premises in order to complete all planning tasks in direct cooperation until the feasibility study is handed in.
