Solar thermal energy is used in the private sector mostly for heating and air-conditing in buildings. In combination with a good thermal insulation and the passive use of the solar radiation the additional demand for heating can be significantly reduced. A well-planned passive use of solar energy can substitute an active heating system completely, even in Central Europe.
