Groundbreaking on the site of the ZAK

Symbolic groundbreaking on April 4, 2014

Starting 2015, a “Landfill over a landfill site” will start the operation in form of a new, independent Landfill section on the site of the Central Waste Management Kaiserslautern (ZAK). Through this landfill expansion, around 7.2 million cubic meters of mineral, low hazardous waste can be deposited up to the year 2052.

On April 4, 2014, the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony with 250 invited guests took place. Mr. Jan Deubig, Chairman of the Board of Management ZAK, pointed out the importance of the project for the Central Waste Management in Kaiserslautern and for the entire region.

Peschla + Rochmes is currently working out the execution plan for the first phase of construction, together with the engineering office Grontmij GmbH (Cologne).

The activities of P+R are focused on the followings:

Gas emissions of old waste deposits, material flow diagrams, technical advices regarding geological barrier and multifunctional seal layer (intermediate sealing), stability and deformation as well as participation to the local supervision of the construction. In addition, P + R also will be responsible for the groundwater monitoring and the annual landfill reports.
